Every year, Goodwill provides free tax preparation services to the community through a partnership with the IRS. The program, known as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), recruits and trains volunteers to prepare free tax returns for households that earn less than $64,000 annually.
Am I Eligible?
Goodwill prepares current year tax returns, prior year tax returns and amendments for households that earn less than $64,000 annually.
When and How Can I File?
2023 tax returns will begin in January 29, 2024, and run through April 15, 2024.
Back taxes will be completed beginning May 2024.
What Do I Need To Bring?
When visiting a free tax preparation center, please make sure to bring the following items:
Social Security cards - for yourself, your spouse and all dependents (no photocopies)
W-2s - for each job held in 2023 for each person in the household. This form reports your name, wage and other tax information to the IRS
Photo ID (Government Issued) - for taxpayer (and spouse if filing jointly); no photocopies
Health insurance for 1095 A/B/C
1099s - such unemployment, Social Security, school loans, healthcare reimbursement, state tax refund, gambling winnings, contract work, interest/dividends) reported to the IRS
Form 1098 - your mortgage statement (if you have one)
Childcare expenses
Last year’s tax returns
Bank account information (for direct deposit)
